Dura*Soft® Foot/Ankle WrapDura*Soft® Foot/Ankle Wrap

Introduction

The Dura*Soft® Foot/Ankle Wrap provides cost effective intermittent cold therapy to the foot and ankle area for acute, chronic, or post-surgical applications. Cryotherapy can reduce pain, swelling and facilitate faster rehabilitation. Available in a sleeve and wrap design.

The Dura*Soft® Foot/Ankle Wrap is often the first line cold therapy for home treatment as it is much less expensive than the AirCast Cryo/Cuff® Cooler system used in hospitals and physiotherapy clinics.

Indications

Offered to patients for home use by healthcare professionals, this cold wrap is best used intermittently for the treatment of acute injury, the lessening of bruising and control of inflammation (redness, warmth, pain and swelling) following injury or surgery.

Cold Therapy and Ankle Injury

OrthopaedicsandTrauma.com asked Jacinda Cheong, BHSc (Physiotherapy) MCSP MHPC who is a Physiotherapist in Kensington at Six Physio, 15 Young Street, Kensington, London, W8 5EH her use of this and other cold therapy products.

Jacinda said: "Because we are specialist sports injury physiotherapists at Six Physio we see many professional and amateur athletes with acute injury like ankle sprain".

She said: "We routinely encourage cryotherapy following an acute soft tissue injury prior to commencing rehabilitation. In the controlled setting of a clinic like ours it is practical to invest and use the cryo/cuff cooler. This technology helps alleviate pain, control swelling and bruising by combining cold therapy and compression. It can also be used to control an exacerbation of symptoms during the rehabilitation process."

Jacinda said: "our patients are highly motivated and have often purchased the less expensive option of the Dura*Soft® Foot/Ankle Wrap before their first assessment and treatment with us. However, we find that once they get to us in Kensington our patients report that the Cryo/Cuff used intermittently is more comfortable to use than the Dura*Soft® Foot/Ankle Wrap". We encourage the use of the less expensive Dura*Soft® Foot/Ankle Wrap and the Cryo/Cuff both using an intermittent mode (Bleakley CM, McDonough SM, MacAuley DC, Bjordal J. Cryotherapy for acute ankle sprains: a randomised controlled study of two different icing protocols. Br J Sports Med. 2006 Aug;40(8):700-5) .
