Looking after an acutely painful back

Colin Natali is a Consultant Spinal, Trauma and General Orthopaedic Surgeon, appointed to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel in December 1996. Colin consults privately at the Cromwell Hospital. Colin told OrthopaedicsandTrauma.com "I spend the time to advise patients on how to care for their back. Back pain is a common condition is often given many names, (lumbago, mechanical low back pain, sciatica). It is however surprisingly simple to offer safe, effective and long lasting treatment".
We asked [LINK] about the fitting and indications for this support. Colin said that "The fitting was easy and each support had an instruction leaflet. He recommended it is tried in patients with core stability weaknesses prior to completing the 18 week DBC program he advises to strengthen the core muscles of the spine. This sacrolumbar support can be handwashed. I recommend that patients wash it in cold water using mild soap so that it does not shrink. It must be rinsed thoroughly and air dried to avoid shrinkage. If it is not rinsed thoroughly, then residual soaps can cause irritation in some patients".
